Chianti Tour and Opera in the Boboli

Today we did a tour of the Chianti region put on by the Florence Chamber of Commerce. It was quite small with just 11 partakers and an excellent guide. We took a small bus to several sights in the area.

San Pietro in Bossolo church

Old bells in the courtyard of the church
We stopped in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa to view some local artisan work. This is a street in that town
Grape vines in the foreground and olive trees in the background. Typical scene in the area.
Our little tour group in San Donato in Poggio, a fortified city.
Main square and well in San Donato in Poggio
Typical gorgeous street in San Donato in Poggio
A building at the vineyard we stopped for lunch in San Casciano in Val di Pesa.
Some massive cypresses at the vineyard.
Walnut barrel at the vineyard
More barrels, super Tuscans and other local wines are made here.
The simple, gorgeous table that was set for our traditional Tuscan lunch. Absolutely delicious. Wine tastings accompanied the lunch.

A small clump of poppies in the parking lot, they must've grown them just for us.
Local craftsman in Omero . He creates and restores traditional carvings. Note the chisels and templates in the background.
Some of his work in his shop.
Machiavelli's house in Sant'Andrea in Peroussina. This property is also a working vineyard.
Beautiful traditional kitchen in the house.
Jake providing scale for the giant rosemary shrub beside the olive trees. Our rosemary in Toronto grows in tiny pots!
Local vineyard kitty.
After the tour, we had tickets for the Florence Opera festival in the Giardino di Boboli.
The crowds arriving for the Opera. We were a bit underdressed, this is a big event! Who knew!
The instruments waiting to be played

The chior and musicians are in place. Then they announced, no photographs.
